Benefits of Various Types of Teas
74
Herbal Medicine and Remedies go back probably thousands of years, there really is no way to know how far back. But before modern pharmacology was in existence people and animals relied on nature, such as plants and herbs. If you think about it animals probably know more about herbs than anyone because they know what to eat and what not to eat; they have a natural instinct of what is going to be good for their bodies by experimenting with everything that nature had to offer them.
As well as the animals there were several tribes that used herbs for various reasons, such as food and medicine. In every tribe there was almost always a person that was in charge of medicine or gathering herbs to make medicine. The first herb that was probably used for medicinal purposes was the marshmallow root. It was a grass type substance that monkeys would eat. And people would crush it to settle their stomach, it would also absorb the acidity of the stomach lining.
Nowadays there is so much medicine being produced everyday and the jury is still out on many of them. People have been so use to just going down to the store to buy a pill for whatever ails them. But more and more people are getting back to basics and learning what is going to be healthier and have less side affects for their bodies, therefore there is a great rise in vitamin stores and herbal stores where people can buy natural plants and herbs for various reasons. There is practically an herb for any ailment; such as anxiety, weightloss, cholesterol, high blood pressure and the list goes on. There is even evidence that some teas can prevent cancer.
This brings me to the reason for this hub, I am going to concentrate on Teas and the benefits of them.
Basically teas come in 4 groups which are;
White Tea
Green Tea
Oolong Tea
Black Tea
Benefits of White Tea
White tea is probably the most delicate of teas and it comes from China. Five thousand years ago the emperor Sheng Nung had a magical experience and said the Gods were responsible for creating white tea when a tea leaf blew into his tea cup when the tea he was drinking was too bitter and hot therefore white tea was born.
White tea is actually chock full of antioxidants and is known to prevent various types of cancer. It has also been known to lower blood pressure and help clear your arteries. This is especially good for people who are at high risk for heart attack and strokes. There has also been evidence that people with Hiv benefit from the drinking of tea. For better immune systems it is recommended to drink at least 3-5 cups of white tea a day
Benefits of Green Tea
Green Tea is probably in the forerunner for the fight against cancer because of the catechins in green tea. Its origins also go back to China and green tea has been used for various ailments but because of the catechins in green tea it fights off the toxins in our bodies that grow into cancer. Because of its more bitter taste, people are not as likely to drink green tea as much, but when you think about the health benefit of green tea you may want to overlook that and maybe drink it with a little sugar or honey. 3-4 cups a day is recommended.
Benefits of Oolong Tea
Oolong tea is probably the tea that falls between the white tea and green tea for heath. It is actually recommended more for weight loss than any other tea. There are agents in Oolong tea that have fat burning capacities and is also good for your skin.
Benefit of Black Tea
While black tea is probably the least popular tea, it still has just as many antioxidants than white or green tea and just as many health benefits. The only difference is that it is not processed as long as green tea that’s why the color is do dark and also it does contain more caffeine than the green tea.
It really is just a matter of taste because black tea has just as many health benefits as green tea.
So for whatever reason you may have to drink tea, maybe it is just for the great taste since there is so many flavors out there now, know that all varities all come from the 4 basic teas and now you know a little about their benefits as well.

ladyjane - This is an awesome hub, I know a lot of tea drinkers and will be sure to pass it on. I drink a lot of green tea but only cold. Great job on this hub. I really enjoyed it.
Sage
Aspirin has been derived from willow's leaves tea, and who knows how many other drugs followed the same path. And some people say that herbal medicine is not good. Thumbs up ladyjane. :)
Terrific and informative hub. Tea rocks!
ladyjane1, what category is Marijuana tea? It makes for a good nights sleep!
Thanks - new to HubPages. Good post. In cancer recovery from lots of radiation and chemo and I live on Green tea. There is quite a bit of support for Green Tea as a cancer fighting agent. Thanks again

ladyjane1 You like your Cannabis tea weak? LOL I like a full 5 leaves and some times a bud. I'm sure Mr. Welton may not approve but after helping my father the cancer sometimes produces much pain and the Cannabis tea worked wonders for him as apposed to the pain med.s that knocked him out. It's hard to beat unless you find some peyote growing wild. The local American Indians will attest to that.
very nice topic!! i like my darjeeling tea though i dont know which category it would fall in as per your classification. by the way darjeeling is a very good tourist destination too .. we are lucky that its only 600kms from home!!
do try darjeeling tea .. its the best in the world famous for its flavour and aroma. also visit darjeeling once in your lifetime .. from darjeeling you can see the everest and kanchenjunga .. the view of sunrise from tigerhill is breathtaking!!
this was interesting, Lady jane, do you get Rooibos over there, healthy from South Africa
Really nice hub LadyJane, great info! Liked your other hubs too! Joining your fanclub and would like to invite you to join mine.
Great hub, i personally love tea. Is Japanese green tea the same as Chinese green tea? Thanks so much!
I am trying to moderate my coffee consumption. Thanks for motivating me towards tea. Great Hub!
This post has inspired me to try out some new teas. I've tried green tea on a number of occasions but it's just not something I can bring myself to drink out of pleasure. I drink it just for the health benefits. But if I could find one I actually enjoyed drinking regularly that also had the same or similar benefits that would be awesome.
Thanks I will let you know if I find the right tipple!
I drink green tea like it's going out of fashion. There is a lot of variation between brands, it's worth persevering to find a brand with a taste you enjoy. Though milk and sugar will spoil the taste a touch of honey can help or even try a spot of blending, a few leaves of gunpowder makes a great difference as does cinnamon, even experiment with a pinch of garam masala or perhaps cumin. Must go, time for another cup of green tea, straight.
I enjoyed your hub. I like drinking all kinds of tea – my favorites at the moment are green tea and white tea. There’s such a wide variety of teas available now – I love trying all the different kinds! I like the taste of tea and I love the health benefits. Thanks for the information.
Very good hub ladyjane1. I have begun to drink tea more regularly and welcome any news concerning it. As a matter of fact I've just begun a hub in it as we speak, a little different from this one of course. Again I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
Great info...I already knew a little about tea and how healthy it is and yet you have done a great job on research and presenting a well written hub!
What a wonderful hub you offer here. Tea has so many good qualities. Your research and presentation is a delightful little vacation through the valley of herbal tea goodness! You have brought on my craving for infused Tazo Chai Tea; my taste buds will think they are being covered in Kashmir! Great hub.

i love tea. breakfast without tea is incomplete
Whenever my 2 daughters and I eat out, I choose a restaurant that serves tea. I've heard a lot about the benefits of tea- especially lowering BG in diabetics. I'm a green tea user.I love the video here.
Only recently, I discovered 2 locally manufactured teas- the Bignay Tree tea and the Guyabano Soursop. I use one kind for a week and the other the next week. I drink 2 cups a day- 1 in the morning and another 1 in the afternoon. It works for me. And I report this to my diabetologist. Still, I don't stop taking my other meds. This hub is helpful.
Good hub. Maybe I'll change my morning coffee with tea....
I am a tea lover and have found some really good points that I didn't know....thx 4 share
I actually really adore black tea, but I've certainly been on a green/white tea kick lately. This is a really interesting hub, and I will definitely be sharing it!
