Friendship and a Motorcycle

Friends
There comes a time in a persons life that they start reflecting on their past and decisions that they have made that led them to where they are today. I have to admit that if there were things in my past that I could’ve done differently then I would gladly go back and redo them. Unfortunately we don’t get a second chance, or a do over. Once something is done then it can’t be undone. But I am a firm believer of trying not to make the same mistake twice and learning from mistakes. I feel that whatever has happened in my life has made me the person that I am today, no matter how it may look to others and how they may judge me. They however are not in my skin and I have learned not to let them get under my skin as well. There is no person in the world that should point the finger at another and judge the decisions that anyone else has ever made, unless they have been in their shoes, no one can say.
Blessings
I have been fortunate to have a great family, siblings that would give their shirt off their back if you are in need or just for the asking. I had parents that would do anything in their power to give me what I needed, sometimes that doesn’t always mean money or wealth. I know to some people blessings mean money, to me blessings mean special moments, kisses, hugs, smiles and laughter, children being born and watching them grow up to be great adults. So in my world of blessings, my cup runneth over.
I have also been fortunate to have had a friend that I could depend on for almost 30 years now. We might have started on shaky ground and definitely have had our differences; but at the end of the day, this person has proven to be almost more than family, definitely more than friendship and almost angelic in the way that he was presented to me at a time when I needed someone the most, and how he continues to be my angel of mercy at certain points in my life.
There have been times when I have been alone, felt lonely, hurt and in pain. My best friend has always been there no matter what. Whatever is going on in my life, it only takes a phone call to him, if I need something and it’s the other way around as well. We used to finish each others sentences and we used to even sometimes know what we were thinking at the same time. We laughed, we cried many times, we shared joy and spiritual moments that we could not ever explain or even try to describe to anyone nor would we have tried. That was only for us.
We have watched each other find other friends, lovers and have even watched each other marry other people, nevertheless the friendship has never died no matter what anyone else has to say about it. My best friend has been the brunt of my jokes, has been the cause of many of my tears and I have hurt him many times as well. There isn’t anything that we have not gone through in this world. I have been ill and he has been there, unselfishly to take care of me when no one else would. I have been there for him when he was throwing up and losing hair from many cancer treatments that he had to endure, and is still enduring.
Forgiveness is a wonderful thing because it allows people to start over again no matter what happens. I guess that is what unconditional love is all about. No matter what a person does or what you do to another, if you can still love them no matter what, then nothing can come between you, even if the actions are not pleasant. We have forgiven each other for many things in our past and its only a memory now.
I can honestly say that if my friend should leave this world today, it would not only leave a void in my life, but it would leave the world a little colder. I dedicate this hub to him and he knows who he is.
My favorite memory of my friend is riding a motorcycle in the dead of night through the desert with him. That was awesome, truly a blessing!
This song describes my friend perfectly
We always joked that this was our song.
A Poem for my Friend
Feelings
Just as a wave is lifted by the shore,
Then breaks across the slowly rising sand,
So as I watch you weep my feelings pour
Across the wash of what I understand.
I wish I could just take you in my arms
And all your pain could melt into my chest,
And all the violence of passing storms
Could pass through me and finally come to rest.
No words can set things right or presence lend
A miracle to light your darkened way,
But there is solace in a loving friend
And comfort in what I don't have to say.
Whatever circumstance you cannot bear,
Just turn to me, and you will find me there

"He stopped loving her today! They placed a wreath upon his door. And soon they'll carry him away! He stopped loving her today!" We can swap "he" for "she" back and forth. George Jones speaks and reeks of loving! So do you! I am very glad you've had "his" comfort in your life. I'm glad that he's had you! Thank you Dear LadyJane!
The video was disabled here- but it's worth a little trouble for everyone to hear George in the background at youtube as they go on with other stuff. It's one of the prettiest songs of love that's ever been!
A beautiful and touching tribute. The poem was wonderful. I had a "best" friend pass away a few years ago--we had been pals for over 40 years when he died. I hope your friend endures the cancer treatments well and remains a force in your life. True friends are so rare.
Have a great weekend.
Mike
Enjoyed the poem and tribute to a friend of 30 years - great memories.
I always knew, since reading you, that you were "that kind of girl"! This is a great tribute, he should be and I'm sure he is or will be touched deeply. Peace, 50
Nice nice tribute.
Lady Jane it could only be the grand kind of girl when referring to you. That connotation has been overly used in a negative way. I some how knew you understand. Regards, 50
Best friends are forever. What a beautiful tribute.
What a wonderful hub.Oh my i cried like a baby. Of course george Jones didn't help I love that song. Nice. I have to push the green button on this one.
What a beautiful tribute to your friend. He's lucky to have you!
LadyJane, what a wonderful ode to friendswip this is. Wonderful to see our humanity in action
Nice.
Beautiful - and I voted it up and beautiful. To share such intimate and deep feeling for someone is a tribute not only to him but to your many friends here on Hubpages, showing you felt you could trust us with it. I've lost that kind of friend to illness. It's not easy. One must treasure the moments that do live in the now.
Its so important to tell people how you feel about them - we usually assume they just know! Thanks for the Hub!
As I type I am listening to Bridge Over Troubled Water, I to had a friend that meant the world to me, we shared time that can never be recaptured, memories, fun and lots of laughs. We parted ways many years ago, but a void remains in my heart for that person. In life we are counted very fortunate to meet someone who is our soulmate and if we do then cherish the time spent together. One day we hope to meet again on a different plane and dimension. I pray your friend is recovering from his sickness and that you can still spend moments together, life is fleeting a hundred years in a persons span of life is like one sand pebble on the beaches of our world. Thanks for the share, a tear fell for your memory, love and peace.
A very nice hub written from the heart. Thank you for sharing it. GBY
I loved the entire hub.Especially about walking in others shoes and not judging them. The rest is heartfelt and I feel your pain.I hope he recovers.

LJ...That was a beautiful acknowledgement of your friendship with that one special person. It was honest and factual but it also showed the deep and enduring relationship that you have with this person. Life does not give us many of those and they are to be cherished. I compare your relationship to that favorite old pair of shoes. They alway feel the same, comfortable, dependable, and great in any weather. They are always there for you and you always look for them first. Thanks for sharing some of yourself with us. WB
