To all little girls with secrets
There was a little girl with a secret in her shoe
The secret was her shoe was torn and her sock was worn out too
There was a little girl with a secret in her hat
The secret is she cut her hair and tried to put it back
Secrets, secrets always there, she never ever gives a care for they are only secrets that do not hurt anyone, and only she knows where they hide and will never see the sun.
There was a little girl with a secret in her purse
The secret was she stole a dime and now believes it cursed
There was a little girl with a secret in her heart
The secret was someone she loved tore it all apart
There used to be a little girl but now she’s growing old
With secrets still embedded deep beneath the hardened soul
Secrets, secrets always there, she never ever gives a care, for they are only secrets that do not hurt anyone, and only she knows where they hide and will never see the sun.

I really like this poem. I am only beginning to appreciate poetry. Like your poem you can learn a lot about a person by reading their poem. Like a glimpse into their soul so to speak. I am going to share this.

Perhaps I took the meaning wrong? I was thinking of one being consumed by their own secrets that rather than letting them go, they became hard hearted loosing the joys of an open life. Did I miss the message? I'm just now starting to read poetry and sometimes I feel I just don't get the intent.
Well like poetry it us up to your interpretation such as beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Having said that, this particular poem is about a dear friend of mine who has chosen to keep secrets, secrets that are deep rooted and so painful that if she let them out they would hurt more people than she cares to. I hope that claifies that and thank you for thinking about my poem.

Ah, the skeletons in my closet resemble a moge pit, and every once in a while they rattle and make me realize that I need less secrets and bones to pick, and more openess and honesty before my life closes. Excellent hub ladyjane1.

MFB thank you for your comments I do agree with you and that is why I wrote this poem for my friend, she knows who she is and she has gone through hell with this secret but no one can deal with her secret until she does. Appreciate your support as always.

Excellent, I like the message. Some should take note, I wonder how many have clutched secrets so tight that they went scowling to the grave?
