Why I Love Mark Schultz
68
Mark Schultz is one of my favorite Contemporary Christian Music singers and for many reasons. Not only can he sing so well that he can tear your heart out just listening to him sing a song, but also he has a heart of gold. He has done quite a lot for charity and orphans, as Mark was himself adopted.
Mark was born in Kansas on September 16, 1970, and graduated from Kansas State University, with a marketing degree. When Mark decided to move to Nashville, he was part of a youth group at the First Presbyterian Church and was also a youth minister there, this is where he no doubt started taking his singing seriously.
He has been nominated for many Dove Awards winning his first at the 2006 Dove Awards when the CD/DVD Mark Schultz Live: A Night of Stories & Songs was named Long Form Music Video of the Year.
One of the most impressive things about Mark Schultz is that he participated in a 3,500 mile bicycle tour across America to benefit widows and orphans. This was done with the James Fund group a non-profit organization founded by Family Christian Stores. They raised over $250,000 for the James Fund Organization.
Mark was compelled to help the orphans because of the need for helping these children of God who have no one else to help them. The James Fund Organization is a wonderful organization that has done so much good for children and widows. It was a real blessing for Mark to get involved with this benefit, he was also compelled to do this when he took a trip to Mexico with his wife and saw so many orphans there that tore his heart out and he wanted to do something to get involved.
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress”. James 2:17
I haven’t had the opportunity yet to see Mark Schultz in concert yet, but I intend to as soon as the opportunity arises. I do know that there is something about Mark that touches my soul to the very core and that it feels like I get a personal message every time that I hear him, I come away feeling exhilarated and good and he makes me feel like there are still good people in the music industry who are not just concerned with making money but also helping their fellow man. Mark also has an extraordinary relationship with his wife which the song what it means to be loved is based on. She convinced Mark that they should not only adopt children who need homes but they should adopt children who have special needs so that they can have families that they would never have otherwise.
I find such inspiration from unselfish people like Mark and his wife and they deserve all the kudos that we can give them because they are such good people and I will continue to be a big fan of Mark Schultz.
This song makes me cry.
